Senator Katz and Representative Pierce will be discussing “A Candid Update on the Maine Legislature and Maine Politics Heading Into 2021”

ROGER KATZ is a senior partner at the Augusta law firm of Lipman and Katz..  He previously served in the Maine State Senate as a Republican from 2010-2018.  In the Legislature, Katz served on the Appropriations Committee, as Chair of the Government Oversight Committee, and as Chair of the Marijuana Legalization Implementation Committee. Prior to his legislative service, Katz was a two-term Mayor of Augusta.

Katz is a longtime activist in his community serving in leadership capacities with such organizations as United Way, Kennebec Valley YMCA, Team Cony, the Augusta Charter Commission and the Augusta Bicentennial Celebration.  He’s also served as Vice President of Maine State Music Theater.  Le Club Calumet gave Katz its “Citizen of the Year” award for his community service and he has also received the “Business Person of the Year” award from the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Katz is a former president of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and has been named one of the “Outstanding Lawyers in America.”  He also cohosts “The Maine Event” – a weekly Sunday statewide television program on Maine Public Television looking at politics and public policy. Katz is married to Ericka Katz and is the proud parent of two adult children, Jonathan and Shari.


REP. TERESA S. Pierce is serving her third term in the Maine House of Representatives. She is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs. She also serves on the Marijuana Advisory Commission and was House chair of the Joint Select Committee on Marijuana Legalization Implementation during the 128th session.

 

Pierce is committed to investing in pre-kindergarten education and the accessibility and affordability of Maine’s colleges and universities, developing a robust economy by rebuilding Maine’s infrastructure, including roads, bridges and Internet connectivity, and protecting Maine’s unique and beautiful environment while using our natural resources strategically to improve our economy.

 

Pierce brings to the Legislature her experience serving as a Falmouth Town Councilor for six years, including two as chair. In addition, she served one term as chair of the Metro Coalition of Greater Portland Council of Governments.

 

Pierce is a graduate of the University of Colorado. She has worked in the development field at the University of New England and other non-profit organizations for the past 20 years.

 

She is married to Sam Pierce. They have two children.
